probably a very small group of people doing it in bursts because it is easy to do if you overlook some really obvious things.

i can tell you this though, it's the fault of one email service provider. you people who get hacked should congregate and i wouldn't doubt it if you used the same @email.com domain.

I'm pretty sure if you have IT experience you would know damn well that keyloggers are just another .exe hiding in system32 or somewhere else followed by a running process in the Windows task manager triggered by a modification to msconfig at startup right?

Anyways more on topic, guys... you think there hasn't been a surge in hacking because, what, it hasn't been posted on the almighty guru? You think everyone in the game that gets hacked posts it on guru? Pfft. I'm willing to bet out of 100% people hacked, 99% of them will go to support instead because they are smart. For ANET to post the thing on the main page of the GW logon that says "Don't Get Hacked" there would have to be that surge of people getting hacked..and where do you think that has been noticed? Well I don't know, maybe in the GW support team's incoming support request all with a title of "im hacked, help pl0x"?? Not everyone posts about their hacked account on guru, lmao.

How is it their fault??? Unless they are rogue and into dirty business and you used the same password from GW as your email....than yeah, they are at fault. Or unless they have ties with gold sites for various MMO's and notice you get GW email, then sell your email name to the gold site for a possibly phishing email attack with a % chance you might be stupid and fall for it.....again sure they might be at fault for that too.... but only the smart internet user would be the one to not get hacked even if the email provider is malicious, because they would practice using a different password and not read weird emails in their inbox about GW from a non gw domain.

No offense dude but did you understand my post or you are just trying to be... [insert appropriate word]? I think with 15+ years in IT I know what keylogger/.exe/msconfig is
I said you don't need a keylogger to get someones login/password. Period. Only because it's most popular and lame way it doesn't mean it's the only way. Maybe my English is not good enough, would you like it in different language?

Password for one of my alt accounts is 26 characters
The problem with the GW client is when you type a password over certain amount of characters it gives false impression you've reached maximum length. I haven't got a clue what is the maximum length you can use to be honest I need to try it one day

Let's play the hypothetical game shall we? Suppose Anet usually gets 200 support tickets a month for hacked accounts, and one month there is 250. That's a pretty large increase from prior months but out of the thousands of active accounts, it's far from a "surge."

Unless we know exactly how many accounts are hacked monthly (which Anet will never release,) an increase in the number of accounts hacked could vary in large amount. I'd appreciate if you posted the rest of your support ticket, the date your account was hacked, and the date you recieved the ticket to see how anet's been handeling hacked accounts.

Unless the community can compile a list of the dates and the websites that they visited within a week of being hacked, we won't know for sure if the security problems are based on the players or from Anet. I'm still putting my money on the players.
